Stories2Learn app is a powerful way to promote social messages to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. S2L offers parents and educators the ability to create personalized stories using photos, text, and audio messages. These stories can be used to promote an individual’s literacy, leisure, as well as social skills. This app comes preloaded with 12 finely crafted social narratives that can be used to teach social skills in the areas of reciprocal play, non-verbal communication, playground and school rules, turn taking, and more. The preloaded stories can also be changed and adapted to the user’s needs. The user can create their own stories and add their own audio and write dialogue that correspond to their photos as well.

iPrompts®, the original picture-based prompting app for the iPhone and iPod Touch, is used by parents, special educators and therapists of those with disabilities, iPrompts® also works great with kids who just need more structure.
iPrompts® can be used to make PICTURE SCHEDULES. This feature allows caregivers to create and present sequences of pictures, guiding individuals through activities of any sort. Schedules can have many pictures, captions can be edited for each image, allowing users to create simple SOCIAL STORIES. Users can choose from hundreds of stock photos and illustrations provided by iPrompts®, add their own digital pictures (e.g., “on the fly” using built-in cameras), or add a picture from a Web-enabled search.
iPrompts has a VISUAL COUNTDOWN TIMER. This feature displays an image of the user’s choice along with a graphical countdown timer (set to any duration), and is useful for demonstrating how much time is left until a current activity ends, or before the next pictured activity begins.
iPrompts can be used to design CHOICE PROMPTS. This feature allows caregivers to offer choices between images, empowering those who cannot vocalize their preferences. When rotated horizontally, the Choice Prompt and Picture Schedule features enlarge and orient images for display to individuals needing visual support.
iPrompts has an IMAGE LIBRARY. The “starter” library includes hundreds of useful illustrations and digital pictures across many categories. Additional categories and pictures may be supplied by users. The Library search feature can be used to bring up both “local” results and images from the Web, which may then be saved permanently. Users may also duplicate or delete images, and edit their captions.

Visual Schedule Planner is a completely customizable visual schedule iPad app that is designed to give an individual an audio/visual representation of the “events in their day”. In addition, events that require more support can be linked to an “activity schedule’ or “video clip” to help model the task even further. Visual Planner works for home, school, work, or community environments. The app is designed for individuals who may benefit from visual support to ease transitions, anxiety, or who simply need a way to visually represent their day.

Picture Scheduler is a tasks organizer for people with disabilities.
The app Audio Notes, has been optimized for creating and organizing personal tasks for individuals with disabilities. Picture Scheduler can help thousands of people who rely on visual and auditory supports to do their common tasks easily. Although this application was developed for individuals with disabilities, it is useful for all. Some of the features of Picture Scheduler are: creating picture, text, video or audio tasks or combining them; automatically creating backup tasks for later restoring; importing video files from a device or via iTunes file sharing; showing a fullscreen picture (optional); enabling “Hide” mode, so you will never delete the task, only hide it; unread tasks are marked and show badge icon; sorting tasks into categories; and enabling local notifications – an app shows alerts even if it is closed.

Autism Scheduler by Special Education Apps provides a platform to create and use customized visual schedules. The user selects the size, label, of the display, incorporating words and/or pictures. An 89-item pre-loaded set of pictures are available, or you may upload your own photos to design task-specific, daily, or weekly schedules. Four options are available to indicate when the schedule item has been completed. Choose from a checkmark, a timer that sounds when complete, a line that crosses the item, or moving to a done folder. Further, four pre-set images are available that can be added toan existing schedule to indicate that a scheduled item will no longer occur. This also alloww the user to insert the new scheduled item. Schedules created can be saved and loaded for future use. A unique feature is also available to lock the ability to delete items from the schedule, ensuring the pre-determined scheduled items remain available. It is also possible to password protect schedules.

Visual Cue is an app designed to be helpful to visual thinkers and individuals who are nonverbal. It comes in a lite and full version. The more sophisticated features of the full version include the ability to sync your data on multiple devices as many as you have, and the abilitiy to share your data with QR code or get other’s by scanning.
As described by the developer, the app includes the following visual tools:
1. Visual Cue: prompt using pictures. Show the picture of a destination rather than repeatedly saying “We are going to go to the school.” The app also supports playing a recorded sound associated with the destinationl.
2. First ~ Then: simple cause and result. This tool allows the user to know what’s will happen after they accomplish a given task.
3. Which One? This tools allows a user to see a pictoral display of up to 4 available choices.
4. Count Up: This tool supports a point-based token system with rewarding animation and sound. You add a star by tapping, and specify a reward to occur when the predinfed number of stars has been reached.
5. Count Down: a time keeper for transition. The count down tool will remind a user how much time they have left until they need to stop something.
6. Visual Scheduler: a guide map for visual thinkers. Using pictures, you can create a sequence that describes what is to occur over a given period of time. The tool provides an easy way to add, remove,or change the sequence in order to maximize flexibility.
7. Visual Timer: Progressive image with timer. You can choose your favorite image as a timer background. The app also supports an alarm.
Stock images are not provided. The user builds their own library by taking photos and adding images from other sources.

This app , a product from Good Karma Applications, is a tool to support interventions that use visual supports to communicate abstract concepts such as time and sequencing of events (e.g., this comes first, this comes next). The app is completely customizable. Users can record their own voice, add their own images from their computer or other device, or use images from the app’s photo library to create a schedule. This app. was designed for the iTouch/iPhone but WILL work on the iPad providing you have the iOS 4.2 update. Three screen formats arre available:
Full Screen- In this format a larger image appears on the screen. User accesses next image on schedule by simply swiping screen to the left.
First-Then Screen- This format shows two images side by side with an arrow between images to guide the sequence of the activity. This is often a visual that is given to portray conditional statements. For example, ”First bathroom, then computer”. This helps let the user know what is coming up next. Split screen can be read left to right with captions underneath each image, or top to bottom of screen with schedule scrolling down to see next image in the schedule.
List Screen – This screen allows images to be listed in a list format where four images are placed on schedule. This is great for a schedule for a child that is very familiar with a system of picture exchange or is not as easily distracted by upcoming activities.
The app also incorporates a checklist feature, which can be turned on or off. When on, a checkmark can be added to a picture to indicate that a task has been completed.
A product of the Grembe Company, My Pictures Talk is described as a video modeling tool. With the capability to add text and voice to pictures, the app has many other uses. “Talking” pictures can be used, for example, to tell stories, demonstrate how to perform a task, create a multi-media social story, and create a visual schedule. Use the video capabilities of your iPhone 3GS and 4, the iPod Touch 4th generation, or iPad to add personalized video clips to the stories that you create.
