For nearly 20 years, the Rural Institute has maintained expertise on the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Programs, with particular focus on the relationship between these benefits and work. The Rural Institute Social Security Information and Referral Services provides the following services to people with disabilities and their families and service providers:
- Creating and disseminating information on SSI and SSDI
- Information on Social Security work incentives such as PASS plans
- Long distance consultation, including referral to local services and national experts on:
- Employment for SSI/SSDI beneficiaries (wage employment and self-employment)
- Work Incentives Planning and Assistance
- Application for SSI/SSDI benefits, Appeals, and Overpayments
