Universities AttendedPh.D.-University of Illinois, Special Education, Severe Behavioral Handicaps BioDr. Timm Vogelsberg received his Masters degree from Utah State University in the area of Special Education Technology, Reading, and Learning Disabilities where he gained certification in K-12 Regular Education and Special Education (Severe Disabilities, Mental Retardation, and Emotional Disturbances). He taught 7th and 9th graders in regular education and was then a Master Teacher for Students with Significant Disabilities at Utah State University=s Exceptional Child Center for three years. He received his doctorate in the area of severe disabilities (referred to then as the Severe Behavioral Handicaps Program) from the University of Illinois where he worked with Dr. Barbara Wilcox, Dr. Frank Rusch, and with a special studies project with Dr. Marc Gold. While in Illinois he spent three years as a graduate level practicum supervisor and research associate supporting the integration of two separate private facilities which supported students with severe disabilities into regular education settings. He then worked at the University of Vermont with Dr.s Wayne Fox, Wes Williams, Bill Keogh, Joe Reichle, and Bill Keogh as a member of the State Interdisciplinary Team for Students with Severe Disabilities and to establish progressive secondary-adult outcomes for students and adults who had severe disabilities. He was the Director of the statewide Project Transition - Supported Employment projects, responsible for statewide implementation, and evaluation of services to students and adults with severe disabilities. Professionally he has been recognized with professional awards 15 separate times, sat on 15 Ph.D. committees, given 39 professional presentations since 1990, written 5 books, 32 monographs, 22 book chapters, 18 journal articles, 10 instructional programs, and 27 funded grants since 1990. He moved to Temple University, wrote and directed the Statewide Systems Change grant for supported employment and provided model site development, technical assistance and training, and personnel preparation support to Pennsylvania=s efforts to move students from school to supported employment and from sheltered-activity settings to supported employment. While at Illinois, Vermont, and Temple he was a member of the faculty and taught courses in severe disabilities in each setting. He was tenured during his time at Temple University. In Montana, Dr. Vogelsberg is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction - Special Education Program and the Executive Director of the Montana University Affiliated Rural Institute on Disabilities. In addition to directing the UAP he co-authored and Co-Directs the Transition Systems Change Grant , is a member of the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, has taught in the Human and Family Development Minor and has recently gained state support - Montana Board of Regents approval (successful state institutionalization of a personnel preparation program) for a two year special education-adult services paraprofessional training program at the University of Montana=s College of Technology in Missoula. R.Timm Vogelsberg has worked in the field of special education-developmental
disabilities since 1969 or for 27 years and was instrumental in establishing
statewide programs to support successful transition from school to
supported employment for individuals with severe disabilities in Vermont
and Pennsylvania during the 1970's and 1980's. |
