Overview of Part C Services The Lead Agency is the State Department of Education. Tennessee has center-based and home-based services.   The State Department of Mental Health Services also contracts services.
Public Awareness and Child Find Activities
  • They have had for the duration of their system in Tennessee a person that has had a half time position that has helped out with the printed materials that deal with Public Awareness.  As of the last two years, she has come on full time and works on the printed materials and web site.
Public Awareness and Child Find Activities believed to be most effective
  • They contract with higher education programs in state to have points of entry in 9 districts.  As part of the contracts each district does activities like speaking engagements, joint efforts with other providers, in-house screenings, and participation on local ICC.  They beleive it is effective because it gets to the local areas through the local agency.
Concerns regarding finding more children
  • Determining how to reach out to culturally diverse populations
  • Funding probably close to capacity now.
Resources received from the State

  • Booklets - Dear Parents (also in Spansih)
