Overview of Part C Services The Lead Agency is the Department of Social and Health Services and they contract out with one county or lead agency per geographic area.  In half the state the agencies that provide the Part C services are school districts.  There are 6 Regions and 36 counties.  They have center-based, home-based and community based services.
Public Awareness and Child Find Activities
  • Web page.
  • Work with Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, who operate as Washington's central directory.
  • Contracted with a marketing consultant to develop a sample tool kit for family service coordinators.  It will be on their website and has templates of news releases, community bulletins, fax sheets, etc.
  • Aired TV PSAs starring the First Lady of the State for family health month in October.  The ads were about normal development and gave a number for parents to call if they have concerns about their child's development.
  • Aired Radio Spots all over the state last summer in English and Spanish in 14 markets.
  • Are developing a Tip sheet on the importance of EI, including a Rolodex card with the 1-800 number on it, a new brochure, and a list of all family resource coordinators.
  • Developed magnets and stickers printed with the 1-800 number. The Kiwanis organizations put the stickers on all the changing tables in public bathrooms.
  • The Dept. of Health has a program called Child Profile, Immunization and Health Promotion System, and is developing inserts that will go to families with new babies.  Families will receive mailings, until their child is six years old, to encourage families to take their children to well child checks and get their immunizations.  The inserts include a checklist as a developmental screener, and has tips to enhance a child's development and safety tips.

  • With doctors one on one contact in most effective.  It is really important to establish local relationships

  • Funding is nearing where it could become an issue.
