Eastern Montana Graduate to Work Project
Customized Career Planning & Employment
On-site Training Events for 2005-2006
* Each session is scheduled for 8:30-12:00*

Session #1: An Overview of Customized Employment and the Process of Discovery
September 26, 2005 (Miles Community College Rm 106, 2715 Dickinson, Miles City, MT)

This ½-day session will introduce participants to the concept of customized employment and discuss how customized differs from competitive and supported employment. The strategy of Discovery will be introduced as an avenue to get to know an individual job seeker for the purpose of custom tailoring employment based on the individual’s unique strengths, interests, contributions and support needs. While this session will be geared toward employment for people with disabilities, the strategies are effective for all job seekers. Employment vendors, Vocational Rehabilitation staff, Workforce personnel, parents, related services staff, teachers, paraprofessionals, students, and anyone interested in employment is invited to attend.

Session #2: The Vocational Profile: A Strategy for Capturing Discovered Information
October 17, 2005 (Miles Community College L & C Rm, 2715 Dickinson, Miles City, MT)

The Vocational Profile will be introduced as an alternative to traditional vocational evaluations. This is a tool that can be used in schools to consolidate student information and guide vocational curriculum, as well as by employment vendors, Workforce and rehabilitation staff for purposes of job development for adults. Both the written and visual Profile formats will be introduced.

Session #3: The Representational Portfolio: A Tool for Representing Individuals in Need of Customization and Negotiating on Their Behalf for Employment
December 5, 2005 (Miles Community College Rm 106, 2715 Dickinson, Miles City, MT)

This session will build on the previous two sessions by demonstrating how to utilize the information gathered in Discovery, captured in the Profile, and discussed during the Employment Planning Meeting to develop representational materials for each job seeker. Examples and templates will be shared with attendees.
